Bantayan Island Cebu

Last October of 2013, I went to Cebu with my office mate Moneth. We were there for only 3 days so we just decided to visit Moalboal instead of Bantayan for it will only take about 2 hours of land trip from Cebu City. So early this year, while planning for a summer trip with my family, I thought of  Bantayan island again.

It has always been a dream of mine to visit that beautiful island. I've always heard of praises about the place and searched pictures over the internet. So this summer of 2014, I was able to make that dream come true.

We took an early flight from Manila to Cebu city via Philippine Airlines. Upon arriving at Cebu city, we took a cab to take us to the North bus terminal and rode the bus going to Hagnaya port. The land trip took about 3 hours then we still had to take a ferry ride from Hagnaya port to Sta. Fe for about 1 hour.

Upon arriving at Sta. Fe, we then proceeded to Beach Placid resort and after dropping my bags at our cottage, I immediately went out again to check the beach. It was so beautiful and peaceful!!

We rested for awhile and since it was too hot, we decided to swim at the beach at about 4 in the afternoon. My mother and I enjoyed taking lots of pictures at the beach front :)

I guess you can't compare Bantayan island and Boracay for they have their own kind of beauty. The white sand and the beach of Boracay is totally beautiful no doubt but if you're looking for a place to soul search, then opt to go to Bantayan instead. Boracay is well known for its night life while in Bantayan, it's very relaxing and quiet. The next day, I was able to take wonderful photos again.

The beach during lunch time is just so beautiful!

At about past 3 in the afternoon, my parents and I decided to visit the Bantayan town proper to see the St. Peter and Paul church. You see I have this penchant for old churches.

You can see renovations ongoing. Touring around the island, you will still see some shattered houses and there were also some tents provided by UN. Bantayan island was directly hit by Typhoon Yolanda but as what we saw, they didn't seem to be that badly hit. We asked the staff at the resort and he said that they were supposed to be hit by a strong storm surge as well but because of a sudden wind from the opposite direction, the waves didn't get that high. My father then said that the people of Bantayan were very lucky and he wasn't surprised for the people living there are very nice, friendly and they seem very religious.

Sadly, but we have to leave the island and went on our way back to Cebu city where we stayed for a night.
We visited the Magellan's cross and Basilica del Sto. Nino with renovations ongoing as well due to the strong earthquake last year.

Thank you Cebu for a wonderful family vacation. (^_^)
